Message from BPW Franklin President Helen Baucke Kia ora everyone Here is my update on Conference 2023: Unfortunately, our application to the Four Winds Foundation, for funding towards Conference costs was not successful, but we have learned something from the process and hope to do better for future Conference funding. This has meant our delegation has largely funded themselves. The delegation from Franklin was myself and Janice as voting delegates, supported by Virginia and Dina. With us in their national roles, was Life Member Dianne Glenn and Resolutions Chair Vicky Mee. The hard work steered by Vicky on getting the resolutions exactly right prior to Conference paid off, with every one being passed unanimously. The exception was our resolution on Enduring Powers of Attorney, which we withdrew and tabled to 2024 as it became obvious it needed more work. On the social side, on Friday evening we were welcomed onto the Roma Marae with a Powhiri and a wonderful banquet style Hangi Dinner. The history of the Marae was powerful and interesting. We felt truly welcome and it was a memorable experience. The Resolution on Modern Slavery will go on to International Congress and we look forward to hearing more on that in due course. On Saturday Evening we attended the splendid Awards Dinner and were proud to present bouquets to Virginia and Dianne as they received their 40 Years’ Service Awards. We were treated to a wine tasting from a BPW Kaitaia member who owns a Wine-making business. We hope to follow this up with a fundraiser for our club, as the wines were spectacular. Maybe a Midwinter event? On Sunday we heard the stories of a panel of 4 inspirational women in business in the Far North. Te Tai Tokerau is blessed with a strong tradition of mana wahine to lead them, and all who take lessons from their achievements, into the future of Aotearoa New Zealand. It was a privilege to represent BPW Franklin and I hope I have done so in a way that was a credit to our club. Ngā Mihi Helen MEMBERS YEARS OF SERVICE: At Conference, Dianne Glenn and Virginia Warren (founder members of BPW Franklin) were presented with their 40 years Service Award. Rare and special, just like them! Dina gets her 5 years too. We are so lucky to have this kind of loyalty and service in our club. Dinner Meeting Fee Increasing from $30 to $35 The Executive Committee has reluctantly increased the meeting fee with effect from the 28 June 2023 Dinner Meeting (Candle Lighting). Unfortunately, MGB Cheffing caterers, have been obliged to increase the cost of dinners to cover increased wages and cost of produce. This has effectively wiped out most of the benefit the club received towards running costs, hence the increase. Fundraising: The Executive Committee has a number of ideas on fundraising for the rest of the year. We started with the $100 note raffle and this will continue. Next, we are starting a raffle for the Candle Lighting Ceremony in June. We need contributions please. Items can be munchies, wine, gift vouchers, toiletries etc. We could try for themed basket/s what do you think? Bring your contributions to the May Meeting. Janice says THANKYOU TO STEPHANIE AND MARY who arrived early to help set up (& take down) the April Dinner Meeting equipment. We want to keep this going, it’s much appreciated. Who will be next? And thank you in advance. Attachments to Members emails:
